LAINY HEDAYA OF HAUTE INHABIT
When you think about the quintessential New York it girl, someone like Lainy Hedaya comes to mind. With her sleek dark hair, sultry looks, and only-in-Manhattan wardrobe, the founder of the fashion blog, Haute Inhabit, is as cool as the city itself. While she made her way through The Shops at Columbus Circle on a recent spring style quest, we tagged along and got the inside track on her singular sensibility.
Why did you start Haute Inhabit?
I studied visual merchandising and store design, and then I started looking at more creative fields while still getting my business degree. I started the blog as a portfolio and then it snowballed into a full-blown business.
What’s your favorite part about what you do?
It’s a dream job to do a million things at once — production, post-production, photography, art, styling. I also love working in fashion, which is a small, warm community where everybody knows everybody.
What does a day in the life look like for you?
The fun part of blogging is that you don’t have a typical day in the life. Some days, I’m home doing emails and admin work. Other days, I’m getting creative on a set or out doing photography. It’s not a desk job — it’s always crazy, spontaneous, and fun.
Describe your personal style.
My personal style is very New York: monochrome with a bit of punk rock and a neoclassic element. There’s also a level of consistency that I’ve had from the inception of what I started doing. My typical outfit is a structured black tuxedo blazer, a white button-down shirt, high-waisted gray jeans, and pointy-toe booties.
How do you connect with your audience?
I feel really connected with my audience, especially when they message me personally. People ask me questions all the time, and I love answering them. It’s a great relationship and an amazing community of girls who are interested in fashion and lifestyle and are looking for the best things in life.
Why do you love The Shops at Columbus Circle?
I love it for a variety of reasons, one of which is the location right next to Central Park. There’s also something for everyone, whether it’s shopping for coveted brands, lifestyle, nightlife, food, working out at Equinox Fitness Club, or going to Whole Foods Market. It’s an all-inclusive place that you don’t need to leave — ever. You can spend the whole day here and feel satisfied.
Name one fashion accessory that you can’t live without.
A great pair of big round sunglasses. They’re functional and stylish and can complete an outfit.
You can follow Lainy Hedaya on Haute Inhabit and Instagram.
